Two days of dialogue, culture and connection for the Romanian Diaspora in Iasi.
Iasi City Hall will host, on 12 and 13 August 2026, the fifth edition of Romanian Diaspora Day, an event dedicated to Romanian communities abroad and their connection with the country.
The two-day event will bring together representatives of central and local authorities, members of Romanian communities from the Diaspora, entrepreneurs, artists, journalists and cultural personalities.
12 August – Entrepreneurship, communication and media
The first day will begin at 8:30, with the reception of guests. The official opening is scheduled for 9:00. The welcome message will be delivered by Mihai Chirica, Mayor of Iasi.
From 9:15 to 11:00, central and local officials, representatives of Romanian communities abroad and personalities from Iasi will deliver official speeches. The programme will continue with several thematic workshops.
The first workshop will focus on entrepreneurship, initiative, innovation and investment. Discussions will cover the role of RePatriot Romania in connecting the Diaspora with the country, as well as entrepreneurship, technology and global markets.
Another important topic will be the role of M Plus TV International in promoting Romanian identity and intercultural dialogue among Romanian communities abroad.
The afternoon programme will include workshops on communication, information and the future of the Romanian Diaspora. Mass media will also be discussed as a bridge between Iasi, Romania and the Diaspora. The first day will end with conclusions, followed by a Gala Evening hosted by M Plus TV International.
13 August – Education, culture and Romanian traditions
The second day will begin at 8:30, with the reception of guests.
The programme will include a workshop dedicated to educational strategies in the Romanian transdiaspora. Participants will also discuss the role of traditional culture in the Diaspora.
Representatives of Romanian associations from abroad will then have the opportunity to present their projects and activities.
The official programme will conclude with a message from Mihai Chirica, Mayor of Iasi, followed by a cocktail hosted by UNIFERO.
Cultural events during Romanian Diaspora day
The event will also include several cultural activities.
Among them are a folk performance by the Carpatica Folk Ensemble from Turin, exhibitions by visual artists Dragos Patrascu and Oana Poleacec, as well as a painting exhibition by Andrei Pennazio.
Visitors will also be able to discover objects created by Romanian craftsmen. A book or Romanian Diaspora magazine launch is also scheduled.
Through its programme, Romanian Diaspora Day in Iasi aims to strengthen the connection between Romanians abroad and their home country, while promoting Romanian culture, identity, entrepreneurship and dialogue.
