PATINF 2026 confirmed Iasi as a key center for medical research and education.
This weekend, Iasi became one of Romania’s most important centers for medical science as it hosted the 20th edition of the National Conference on Infectious Diseases (PATINF 2026). The event brought together more than 400 participants, including university professors, medical specialists, resident doctors, and healthcare professionals, further confirming Iasi’s position as a leading academic and medical hub in the Moldavia region.
The conference was organized by the “Saint Parascheva” Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases in Iasi. It was held in partnership with the “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Other partners included the Romanian Society of Infectious Diseases and HIV/AIDS. The Pan-European Research Institute Association “Prof. Dr. Vasile Luca” was also involved.
This year’s edition was held under the theme “Innovative Perspectives and Holistic Interferences in Contemporary Infectious Pathology.” The conference focused on multidisciplinary collaboration and integrated patient care. The scientific program included presentations, research studies, and debates. Participants discussed some of the most important topics in infectious disease medicine. These included HIV infection, severe viral diseases, antimicrobial resistance, sepsis, emerging and re-emerging infections, and new epidemiological challenges.
PATINF 2026 Strengthened Iasi’s Role as a Medical and Academic Hub
Participants examined numerous complex clinical cases and presented the results of recent research. One of the studies presented during the conference focused on the impact of severe obesity on the progression of infectious diseases. The research highlighted how excess body weight can significantly influence disease severity and hospitalization outcomes, emphasizing the need for comprehensive medical management.
Additional sessions addressed emerging fungal infections, the management of patients with multiple health conditions, and new directions in infectious disease research. Specialists discussed the importance of early diagnosis and close cooperation between medical specialties in order to improve patient outcomes.
Over the years, PATINF has become one of Romania’s most important conferences dedicated to infectious diseases. Organized annually in Iasi, the event has brought together thousands of specialists over the past two decades and has played a significant role in promoting scientific exchange and medical progress. Previous editions addressed topics such as the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, antimicrobial resistance, and the impact of new technologies on diagnosis and treatment.
