JASSY Strengthens the International Profile of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi.
The “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi (UAIC) is strengthening its international profile through the JASSY International Summer School. In 2026, the program reached its ninth edition. Every summer, JASSY brings together students, PhD candidates and professors from several countries.
The university launched the first edition in 2018.The largest edition took place in 2025, when 255 participants from 23 countries came to Iasi. In total, nearly 950 people have taken part in the program over its nine editions.
Since 2025, all six JASSY modules have been organized as blended intensive programs within the Erasmus+ framework. This year’s edition took place from July 13 to 19. The 57 professors delivered the academic activities. Of these, 52 came from UAIC, while five represented partner universities from France, Portugal, Spain and the United States.
Participants could choose from six academic modules covering a wide range of fields, including life sciences, physics, mathematics, computer science, international relations, tourism, finance and human resources.
One of the modules focused on life sciences. Students worked in the laboratories of UAIC’s Faculties of Chemistry and Biology. Topics included DNA-based species identification, structural biology, the use of enzymes and antibiotic resistance. Another module focused on physics, mathematics and computer science. Participants explored artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptography and the Internet of Things.
Participants examined international relations and political crises through lectures and case studies. They also explored tourism and cultural heritage through a dedicated module that included workshops and guided tours. Another module focused on finance and value creation through case studies and practical Excel applications.Another module focused on human resources, with participants examining current challenges and the impact of digitalization on the field.
The JASSY experience went beyond academic activities. Participants visited the “Anastasie Fatu” Botanical Garden, explored Iasi on guided tours and took part in rides aboard the Café Tram. Excursions to northern Moldova were also organized. The academic activities were equivalent to four ECTS credits.
For many participants, JASSY was their first experience in Romania. According to the organizers, the program contributes to the development of international academic partnerships and creates opportunities for intercultural exchange.
Participants leave Iasi with new knowledge, professional contacts and international experiences. At the same time, they become ambassadors for the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi and for the city itself.
